The Picture of Dorian Gray

I’ve wanted to tackle this character for a long time, but I never quite figured out how to frame it. Now I have and I’m quite happy with the result.

I knew that I wanted to paint a book-faithful Dorian at a state where he is somewhere in between the beautiful and charming young man he once was and the corrupt soul that he became. The moths also serve as a symbol of his metamorphosis, but a darker form than a butterfly’s metamorphosis.

What is it with me and moths? I don’t know.
